Dual Degree

B.S., Physics/M.S., Engineering or Artificial Intelligence

Seton Hall offers this unique 3+2 dual degree program in which students can earn a bachelor's degree in Physics plus a master's degree in Engineering or Artificial Intelligence in partnership with Stevens Institute of Technology. Earning two degrees in just five years will give students the skills and experiences to be more versatile and marketable when pursuing future employment or education.

Students interested in Engineering will be able to pursue programs in Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, Civil or Construction Engineering and Management and Ocean Engineering. We are also in the process of developing programs in Chemical Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering and Industrial Engineering.

This program provides students the best of two great institutions. Students get to pursue their undergraduate degree at Seton Hall in a traditional, residential college setting in suburban New Jersey only 14 miles from New York City. At Seton Hall, students will be mentored by faculty in small classes and will engage with faculty in research as early as freshman year. Students also attend conferences and are often among the only undergraduate students to present at these conferences. Dozens of Seton Hall students have been awarded research funding from the NASA and the New Jersey Space Grant Consortium. Student also benefit from comprehensive career advising and internship opportunities starting in freshman year. Student will also have no shortage of fun — make friends, participate in clubs and activities and engage in all the fun and excitement they envisioned from their college experience, including cheering on the Big East Pirates.

When students complete their undergraduate degree at Seton Hall, they will move on to Stevens Institute of Technology to pursue their master's degree in Artificial Intelligence or their chosen field of Engineering. Stevens is located in Hoboken, New Jersey, only about 12 miles from Seton Hall’s campus. The waterfront campus offers breathtaking views of the NYC skyline.

Named after one of the nation's most distinguished families, the Stevens family is known as America's First Family of Inventors. They revolutionized American engineering forever, designing steamboats, locomotives, railroad tracks and a host of other technical innovations that powered a new nation. Stevens continues this legacy by providing innovative opportunities to students. A highly regarded institution, Stevens' offers a unique blend of technological education and applied learning opportunities. Students will work in a collaborative environment with faculty and engage in ground-breaking research.

Here are a few other amazing things about earning a Physics degree at Seton Hall:

  • Gain real-world experience with internships at top employers like Sandia National Laboratories, U.S. Department of Defense, Ford Motor Company, Lockheed Martin, Brookhaven National Laboratory and more.
  • Work alongside faculty on cutting-edge edge research starting as early as freshman year. More than 80% of our students conduct research with faculty.
  • Benefit from opportunities to attend national conferences –– most times with Seton Hall paying all expenses. Last year alone almost 25% of physics majors traveled to conferences across the country.
  • Learn from renowned and innovative faculty like Dr. Jose Lopez. Rated as one of the smartest people in New Jersey, he's an expert in plasma physics, receiving research grants from the National Science Foundation, Air Force Office of Scientific Research and more.
  • Gain cutting-edge research experience with Dr. M. Alper Sahiner's research program in semiconductors and laser processing of solar cells in collaboration with Brookhaven National Laboratory, Spanish National Research Council (CSIC), NIST and IBM.
