AP-Google Journalism and Technology Scholarship
  • For U.S. citizens, 18 years or older, attending school full-time on the undergraduate or graduate level. Applicants must be a sophomore or higher with at least one year of full-time study remaining at the time of their application. Requires a minimum GPA of 3.0. Applicants should be involved in the creation of journalistic content with computer science elements, but no specific major is required.
  • Award: 6 awards of $20,000.
  • To be eligible for a King Family Foundation undergraduate scholarship, you must be a full-time film or television major about to enter your junior or senior year in a degree-granting program at an accredited 4-year U.S. college or university.
  • Award: $3,500 awarded annually.
  • For freshman minority students (African American, Hispanic, Asian or Native American) who are U.S. citizens or permanent residents, have a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better, and have an interest in the media industry as a career. Participants have the opportunity to work, develop valuable skills, and network with industry professionals each summer until they graduate from college.
  • Award: Participants earn wages of approximately $2,500-$3,000 for each 8-10 week summer internship, as well as a matching scholarship of the same monetary amount.
Goldwater Institute Ronald Reagan Journalism Fellowship
  • For journalism majors who are undergraduate students, recent graduates, or graduate students. Open to international students who are eligible to work in the U.S. Ideal applicants will demonstrate: 1) An active interest in journalism and public policy; 2) Strong intellectual aptitude; 3) Eagerness to work cooperatively and supportively with others; 4) Exceptional judgment and integrity; and 5) An appreciation for the free enterprise system and constitutionally limited government. Fellows work with an investigative reporter to develop a plan to research a story, follow it through, and write up the findings, as well as completing reading assignments, participating in Lunch and Learn seminars, attending local events, and meeting and networking with local policy leaders. Spring and fall fellows must work at least 24 hours per week; summer fellows must work 40 hours per week. All fellowships are served at the Goldwater Institute in Arizona.
  • Award:  A modest stipend based on fellowship duration and hours worked.

International Radio and Television Society Summer Fellowship
  • For juniors, seniors, and graduate students interested in the fields of broadcasting, cable, advertising, and interactive media. Following a one-week orientation, fellows gain full-time "real world" experience at New York-based media corporations.
  • Award: Travel, housing, and living allowance included.
  • For women who are U.S. citizens, permanent residents of NY, NJ, CT, or PA, and majoring in communications-related field including, but not limited to, advertising, broadcasting, communications, English, film, journalism, marketing, digital media, or public relations. Undergraduate and graduate students are both eligible, but graduate students are required to be members of New York Women in Communications Foundation. Minimum GPA of 3.2 required.
  • Award: 15 to 20 awards are given each year, ranging from $2,500 to $10,000.
  • For all current students majoring in the social sciences, including anthropology, communication studies, criminal justice, cultural studies, economics, education, history, political science, psychology, sociology, and social work. Applicants must submit two commentaries, each no more than 4000 characters (~500 words) in length, and one photo. One commentary must be based on one or more of the photos by Rachel Tanur and one must be based on an original photo taken by the applicant. Each commentary is expected to give a sociological analysis of the selected visual material, based on theoretical and applied social science methods. See the page of past winners for examples.
  • Award: 1st prize: $2,500; 2nd prize: $1,500; 3rd prize: $500.
  • A variety of awards available for undergraduate students, as well as some for graduate students.  All undergraduate students may apply, as long as they are of sophomore standing or higher, and have at least one full year of college remaining.  All graduate students may apply, as long as they have one full year of graduate school remaining.  While all majors are permitted to apply, applicants must intend to pursue a career in electronic journalism.
  • Award: Ranges from $1,000 to $2,500 depending on specific scholarship.
