STEM Connect
Promoting STEM Opportunities
The STEM Connect Initiative within the College of Arts and Sciences supports Seton Hall students in their learning, research and career development in science and technology.
Initiated in 2024, the Dean’s Undergraduate STEM research award offers undergraduate STEM students an opportunity to learn and contribute to cutting-edge research projects under the guidance of one of the STEM faculty members. This monetary award equips students with the advanced experimental, theoretical, computational, and analytical skills to prepare them for the fast-paced nature of research in STEM fields. As part of this experience, students will also learn about scientific writing and presentations at STEM-related conferences. During Academic Year 2023-24, 18 research teams were funded by this award. The deadline for the AY 2024-25 completion is October 15, 2024 by 5 p.m.
Launched in Fall 2024, this award was established to acknowledge and encourage high-quality original work and new knowledge that has been published, discoveries, and advancements that align with the forefront of the STEM fields. Institutional impact and journal impact are some factors, among others, that will be considered in this competition. The College of Arts and Sciences is on a mission to identify and acknowledge the most influential Seton Hall University publications and principal investigators in STEM fields. The deadline for this annual award is December 15, 2024.
Collaboration, efficiency, and competitiveness are the pillars of the STEM Connect initiative. To achieve these goals, the College of Arts and Sciences have invested in establishing multiple programs, such as a new B.S. in Cognitive and Behavioral Neuroscience, along with a 5-year dual-degree B.S./M.S. programs in Applied Physics and Engineering, the Biological Sciences, Data Science, and Chemistry and Biochemistry.
Additionally, several articulation agreements have been established with other local institutions. This effort is an opportunity for not only Seton Hall University, but students from other institutions to join our STEM programs and earn their graduate degrees in an optimized time frame and hence, to be prepared for more advanced job opportunities. This effort is coupled with the College of Arts and Sciences ongoing plans to advance STEM teaching, and research laboratories and equipment.
The newly established Robotics Club is a student-initiated scientific club with the goal of learning about robotic functions and programing. This club has successfully attracted several students from across the STEM fields, and created an environment for interdisciplinary learning and collaboration among students. Among several competitions, the Seton Hall Robotics team competed in the 2024 VEX Robotics World Championships in Dallas, Texas.
The generosity of the STEM Connect supporters will help facilitate and accelerate the College of Arts and Sciences efforts in making a difference in the lives of our students, affording undergraduate students more opportunities for participating in original research, creating fellowships for graduate students, supporting our faculty pioneers and inventors in overcoming their research challenges, and acknowledging their achievements.
