M.S.A.T. Curriculum
The comprehensive M.S.A.T. curriculum is a two-year, 64-credit full-time program designed to integrate formal classroom instruction, laboratory experiences and clinical education. Foundation courses are interprofessional; our students gain a unique appreciation and perspective from their peers in other health professions, including occupational therapy and physical therapy, and learn from a distinguished, interdisciplinary faculty.
Dynamic clinical research is also a major focus of the M.S.A.T. program. Students present their research at regional and national conferences. M.S.A.T. Fieldwork
The clinical education aspect of the M.S.A.T. program is a coordinated effort between Seton Hall University and various clinical sites throughout our area. Dedicated clinical education faculty work with these sites in order to place our students for rotations throughout the year (Clinical Practica I-IV, see above).
The sites are focused on creating real-life learning experiences for our students. Students are taught to apply the knowledge they receive in the classroom and integrate it with the hands-on skills required in different professional settings. The diversity of the different clinical sites allows our students to develop their own individual career goals and professional areas of interest.
Students can expect hands-on clinical experience with athletes and physically active individuals at both on- and off-campus facilities, including:
- Professional sports teams
- Sports medicine and rehabilitation clinics
- High schools and secondary schools
- Colleges and universities
- Sports performance and training facilities
- General medicine clinics
Transportation to/from Fieldwork Sites
Since most clinical sites are not accessible by public transportation, a student must
have a valid driver's license and access to an automobile to meet clinical requirements.
Background Check
Students who are pursuing a degree in Athletic Training need to be aware of certain
elements that potentially can impact clinical placement, certification, licensure
and future employment. Federal and various state laws are in place that preclude persons
with criminal backgrounds from being in contact with children and patients. Where
these laws apply, you will be required to undergo a criminal background check, which
may include fingerprinting and a search of federal and state criminal databases. Drug
testing may also be required. A felony conviction may affect a graduate's ability
to sit for the Board of Certification examination and/or attain state licensure. The
student will incur the cost of this process, which is conducted on an individual basis
as required by the clinical site.
