A Team of K-12 Education Leadership Professors and Doctoral Students Conduct 3-hour Lecture to Italian PhD Students
Thursday, June 8, 2023
Education Leadership, Management, and Policy Professors Christopher Tienken and Daniel Gutmore, along with recent doctoral graduate Sean Cronin, and current doctoral students Frances Aboushi and Nadia Bennett, conducted a video conference seminar with a cohort of PhD students and university faculty at the University of Catania on May 31, 2023. The Seton Hall team made the three-hour seminar about education doctoral programs in the United States, and the specific processes followed at Seton Hall University.
The May 31st lecture was part of a larger ongoing collaborative relationship between Professors Christopher Tienken, Daniel Gutmore, and James Corino with Professors Maria Tomarchio and Liana Daher from the Department of Education Science at the University of Catania initiated in 2015. The collaboration has resulted in joint research projects, lectures, and publications. Tienken will be spending part of his 2023-2024 sabbatical at the University of Catania as an External Member of the Faculty with a focus on education policy.
Seton Hall doctoral students Frances Aboushi and Nadia Bennett presented on the scholarly processes and methods for finding researchable topics and writing the first three chapters of the dissertation. Recent Seton Hall doctoral graduate, Dr. Sean Cronin, discussed the methods used to arrive at research conclusions and recommendations for policy and practice as part of completing Chapter 5 of the dissertation.
Several Ph.D. students from the University Catania have attended lectures conducted by Dr. Gutmore during the 2022-2023 academic year. They provided insights into the Italian education system and discussed how the topics presented by Dr. Gutmore apply to the Italian education context. Seton Hall education leadership graduate students are able to dialogue and collaborate with the PhD students from Catania and both groups gain important cultural insights. More collaborative lectures are planned for the Fall 2023 semester.
