Asian Studies Undergraduate Program Goals
- Academic Goals
- Students will acquire a solid foundation to understanding Asian counties including their history, geography, social life, religion, politics, language, literature, and culture.
- Students will achieve their Asian language skills to the ACTFL Intermediate-High level, the minimum requirement for teacher certification by the State of New Jersey Department of Education.
- Students will enhance their understanding of Asia through various research projects.
- Students will learn the essential tools for college life and beyond by participating in study abroad and various internship programs.
- Students will effectively use library, databases, and technology resources for the investigation of specific topics.
- Students will critically analyze and evaluate issues on Asia and the international society.
- Students will write and speak intelligently about ideas and arguments during presentations by utilizing the latest technological tools.
- Students will conduct research independently as well as collaboratively with other colleagues.
- Students will apply knowledge and skills responsible to civic, social and/or global issues.
- Career Goals
Depending on their specific career path, students majoring in Asian Studies will be well suited for the following:
- Students will attend graduate school in history, literature, international relations, political science, philosophy, religion, sociology, anthropology, second language acquisition, MBA program, or related fields.
- Students will attend law school specializing in immigration law, intellectual property law, criminal law, corporate law, and other specialized disciplines.
- Students will work at various government agencies at the international, national, and local level.
- Students will work at K-12 educational institutions as an Asian language and/or world history teacher.
- Students will work at corporate companies in the U.S. and Asian countries.
- Students will teach English and American culture in Asian countries.
- Students will succeed in one's professional pursuits and continue intellectual development beyond undergraduate study.
