On April 11, Associate Professor Munira Wells, Ph.D., R.N. was honored for her outstanding professional career accomplishments during the 2024 Diva and Don Gala at the Pines Manor in Edison, New Jersey. She was among the list of 19 other nurses being honored as Divas or Dons at this 15th annual event hosted by the New Jersey State Nurses Association (NJSNA).
“Dr. Wells has a long-standing history of commitment to our nursing students. Her drive for professionalism and success is admirable and a model for all,” said Interim Dean of Nursing Kristi Stinson, Ph.D., R.N., A.P.N.-B.C.
Wells has been a nurse for over 25 years and is an expert in adult health and acute care, with clinical practice in critical units and post anesthesia care. Her nursing career has included various roles, clinical and administrative, and even a stint as a clinical consultant for a healthcare informatics firm.
She enjoys teaching and incorporates interactive exercises and technology in her lessons for students across diverse levels. She teaches multiple courses in the Accelerated B.S.N. program including Adult Nursing and Health Assessment, and Measurement and Evaluation in Nursing Education, in the Ph.D. in Nursing program.
Wells was awarded the Faculty Development Scholarship from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and New Jersey Nursing Initiative, which allowed her to complete doctoral studies at the Seton Hall University College of Nursing. Her dissertation, which examined the lives of Indian nurses working in the US, was an extension of graduate work with foreign nurses and a deep interest in transcultural nursing and immigrant nurses. She has presented on this topic at local and national conferences.
Wells continues to be involved in professional groups supporting nurses and their aspirations. Along with serving as the President of the American Association of Indian Nurses NJ Chapter2 (AAIN-NJ2), she is a member of several professional organizations including Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing (Lambda Iota and Gamma Nu chapters), the Transcultural Nursing Society, the American Nursing Association, and the New Jersey State Nurses Association.
She is passionate about her career and quality patient care, citing “Advocating for fellow nurses is advocating for better patient outcomes!” on her LinkedIn Page.
