Center for Sports Media Opens New Student Spaces in Jubilee Hall
Tuesday, October 7, 2025
Seton Hall University’s Center for Sports Media is celebrating a new chapter with the opening of two dedicated spaces on the third
floor of Jubilee Hall. Designed to give students a place to learn, connect and collaborate,
the spaces include a student lounge and a multipurpose meeting room.
The student lounge — outfitted with two 75-inch TVs connected to YouTube TV, speakers, couches and tables — offers a welcoming spot to gather before or after class. Students can relax, recharge or catch live games and highlights with friends and classmates.
Adjacent to the lounge, the new meeting room provides workspace for group or individual projects and features a trophy case honoring the accomplishments of Seton Hall alumni in the sports media industry. Among the first items on display is the 1996 Emmy Award for Studio Shows (on loan) received by renowned broadcaster and Center founder Bob Ley for his work on ESPN’s SportsCenter, a symbol of the success and recognition earned by graduates of the program.
The Center has already begun using the new facilities. Last week, the first class convened in the space, followed by a Thursday Night Football watch party that drew students together in celebration of the milestone. An official opening reception is scheduled for later in the fall semester.
Executive Director B.J. Schecter emphasized that the new facilities are part of a larger vision to create opportunities for students to thrive in a fast-changing industry. “Our Center acts as an incubator, and now it’s up to our students to run with what’s in front of them,” he said. “Jobs are changing, but opportunities abound. Our students have the ball. They’ve got next.”
The opening of the new spaces comes at a time when the Center is expanding its slate
of programs and experiences. Applications are open for Pirates in the Field, a program which will send students to cover major sporting events including the
World Series, Super Bowl LX and the 2026 World Cup in East Rutherford, NJ. Students
are also producing multiplatform content through the Center’s Pirates Cove blog, working in exclusive internships with ESPN and other networks, and preparing
for international opportunities, including a study abroad program in France next spring.
In addition, the Center will host Emmy Award-winning broadcaster Andrea Kremer for a masterclass on October 9. Kremer, whose career spans ESPN, NBC, HBO Real Sports, Amazon and NFL Network, will lead a session on storytelling and investigative reporting.
“Our investment in this new space was a priority for the College of Human Development, Culture, and Media,” said founding Dean Bryan Crable, Ph.D. “With its one-of-a-kind partnerships and an ambitious lineup of programs ahead, the Center for Sports Media is continuing to build on Seton Hall’s tradition of academic excellence and professional opportunity, equipping our students to shape the future of sports media.”
