Peter King Joins Seton Hall as Professional-in-Residence
Wednesday, September 18, 2024
Peter King, a three-time National Sportswriter of the Year, and one of the preeminent NFL writers of this generation, will be joining Seton Hall University as a Professional-in-Residence this fall.
King, who recently retired from NBC Sports after a 44-year career as a journalist, will conduct three master classes for the Center for Sports Media as well as participate in the CSM’s events. The first master class, "Building Relationships and developing sources," took place earlier this week. King’s second session will be held next month. All of King’s master classes are open to all Seton Hall students.
"Peter King is one of the best journalists, sports or otherwise, of our era," said Center for Sports Media Executive Director B.J. Schecter. "His ability to get the biggest names in football to open up and let him inside the curtain is unparalleled. He’s also an innovator and has found unique ways to expand his reach and produce compelling content for multiple platforms."
King started his career in newspapers and then moved on to Sports Illustrated, where he penned his nationally-regarded Monday Morning Quarterback column. Readers devoured King’s 10,000-word opus religiously as he covered topics ranging from Tom Brady’s secrets to longevity to book recommendations to the tails of his dogs. After leaving SI in 2018, King brought his column to NBC Sports.
Educating students on the rapidly changing media landscape, King will provide an immense opportunity for students to learn directly from one of the most accomplished and respected sports journalists of our time.
King is no stranger to Seton Hall. Last September, he spoke to a class and then headlined an event called "Covering the NFL 101." This summer he was a special guest at the inaugural pre-college Sports Media and Business Academy for high school students. On September 10, he led a conversation with USA Today NFL writer Jarrett Bell at the Center for Sports Media’s Best Sports Writing event.
King’s second master class will be held in early October.
"I’m thrilled to welcome Mr. King to Seton Hall as a professional-in-residence," said Bryan Crable, Ph.D., dean of the College of Human Development, Culture, and Media. "Throughout his career, he has not only adapted to the changing nature of the sports media industry, but has been one of the most visible advocates of quality, ethics-based journalism—not just in sports, but in all forms of reporting. Our students, and our entire community, will benefit tremendously from his insight, expertise and mentorship, and his presence on campus speaks volumes about the growing national reputation of our Center for Sports Media."
About the Center for Sports Media

The Center’s activities provide students with an interdisciplinary foundation for academic training and theory with practical experience in the rapidly evolving sports media industry, while also drawing professional and scholarly attention to the industry’s impact on contemporary social life.
