International Symposium hosted by the Alberto Italian Studies Institute
Wednesday, September 23, 2020
The Charles and Joan Alberto Institute is pleased to host the inaugural symposium of the Interdisciplinary Network for Nineteenth-Century Italian Studies (INNCIS), which was due to take place in April at Seton Hall University but will now take place virtually over the course of six weeks.
On Fridays, starting October 2 until November 6, the Alberto Institute will be holding weekly online, themed seminars, each including six speakers and a Q&A at the end of the session. Two keynote speakers - Professor Simonetta Soldani (Università di Firenze, Italy) and Professor Silvia Tatti (Università di Roma La Sapienza, Italy) - respectively will open and close the seminar series.
The main objective of this symposium is to bring together scholars from different geographic areas and institutional affiliations to share their research and teaching practices related to nineteenth century Italy. The symposium features 29 speakers from the U.S., Italy, UK, Ireland, Norway, Belgium, France, and Australia.
The Alberto Institute is pleased to facilitate this scholarly exchange; its director, Dr. Romani, is one of the symposium organizers and founding members of INNCIS.
"I think this is a wonderful opportunity for Seton Hall to be involved in the international community of Italian Studies scholars and to provide a home for what promises to be a very fruitful scholarly exchange," she said.
The Interdisciplinary Network for Nineteenth-Century Italian Studies, or Ottocentismi, aims to promote an interdisciplinary study of Italian culture from 1790 to 1915. It provides a forum for scholars interested in nineteenth-century Italy, both for its high- and low-brow cultures, in the absence of an already established platform of scholarly interaction in Italian Studies specifically focused on the Nineteenth Century.
