Philosophers Speak: Dr. Jesse Prinz on the Emotions

On Monday, April 15, 2019, from 5 – 6:15 p.m. in Bethany Hall A, the Philosophy Department and the Dean's Office of the College of Arts and Sciences will host the tenth anniversary lecture of the Philosophers Speak lecture series. This lecture brings to campus Dr. Jesse Prinz, Distinguished Professor of Philosophy at The Graduate Center, City University of New York. Dr. Prinz's talk is entitled, "Are the Emotions Universal or Culturally Constructed?"
Dr. Prinz's work focuses on perception, emotions, and culture, and the ways in which these influence human thought and behavior. His monographs include "The Emotional Construction of Morals" (2007) and "Beyond Human Nature: How Culture and Experience Shape Our Lives" (2012). Dr. Prinz is also Director of the Interdisciplinary Committee for Science Studies and the Philosophy Lab at The Graduate Center.
Over the last decade, the Philosophers Speak series has brought many distinguished philosophers to the Seton Hall campus to engage with students and faculty. The first speaker in the series was Kwame Anthony Appiah; other speakers have included Harry Frankfurt, Nancy Fraser, David Chalmers, and Michele Moody-Adams.
