Philosophy Lecture: Lorenzo Casini, Ph.D., on the Mind

The Philosophy Department will present a guest lecturer from 5 to 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, October 3rd, 2023, in Arts and Sciences Hall, Room 109. This lecture will bring to campus Professor Lorenzo Casini, fellow at the IMT School for Advanced Studies, Lucca, Italy.
In his talk entitled, "Can One Experimentally Demonstrate if the Mind Causes Anything?" Professor Casini will explore whether we should think that people’s mental states serve as causes of other states and in what sense.
Professor Casini’s research focuses on important issues in the philosophy of science, philosophy of social science, biomedical sciences, and mind. He is well known for his work on causal modelling, and has published in leading journals including Philosophy of Science, British Journal for the Philosophy of Science, Erkenntnis, and Foundations of Science.
