Students seen working together on a laptop device.Seton Hall University will host an inaugural 24-hour Hackathon from April 12-13, 2025, in Jubilee Hall. The event invites undergraduate and graduate students from various disciplines to collaborate and develop solutions to real-world challenges using data science, artificial intelligence and technology.

The Hackathon aims to foster collaboration, technical expertise and networking opportunities with industry mentors from Blue Owl Capital and other corporate partners, providing students with hands-on experience in data analytics, AI and interdisciplinary problem-solving. Participants will form teams to address challenges in health and bioinformatics, financial technology, security and sports innovation. All types of projects, from software to hardware prototypes to business proposals to social impact initiatives, are welcome.

The Hackathon is open to all undergraduate and graduate students. All participants from fields such as computer science, finance and business, healthcare, arts and humanities, communications, nursing and healthcare, social or natural sciences will gain valuable experience in collaboration, problem-solving and innovation. Interdisciplinary teams bring together diverse skills and perspectives to tackle real-world challenges. Whether students have skills in coding, data analysis, strategy, creative thinking or diverse subject-matter expertise, each unique contribution is essential to developing impactful solutions.

Manfred Minimair, faculty leader for the event, emphasized, on behalf of the Hackathon committee, the importance of collaboration and innovation in addressing real-world problems. “This Hackathon is an opportunity for students to apply their classroom knowledge to practical challenges. By working in interdisciplinary teams, they will develop creative solutions that have real impact while gaining valuable experience in teamwork and problem-solving.”

Throughout the competition, students will receive mentorship from industry professionals who will offer guidance on data analytics strategies, real-world applications and business approaches. Judges from Blue Owl Capital, Seton Hall faculty and corporate partners will evaluate projects based on creativity, impact and technical feasibility.

Winning teams will receive prizes, including cash, iPads, drones and other technology items. Participants will also earn digital badges and micro-credentials from Seton Hall’s Continuing Education division to enhance their resumes.

Students will have access to pre-event workshops on data science, AI and design thinking. These sessions aim to provide foundational knowledge and strategies to enhance problem-solving and teamwork skills.

Seton Hall is also hosting a T-Shirt Design Competition in conjunction with the Hackathon. The winning design will be featured on official Hackathon T-shirts, and the creator will receive a $200 prize. Designs must be submitted by March 15, 2025, and follow Seton Hall’s branding guidelines.
