Celebrating 29 Years of Innovation and Scholarship at Petersheim Academic Exposition
Tuesday, February 4, 2025
Now in its 29th year, the 2025 Petersheim Academic Exposition, "Share, Honor, Unite," will take place from Tuesday, April 22, through Saturday, April 26, 2025.
This annual celebration honors scholastic achievement, creativity and engagement, innovation and transformation. Embracing Seton Hall’s learner-centered community, undergraduate and graduate students, alumni, faculty, administrators, staff and colleagues from throughout the higher education community gather among the various disciplines.
A Week of Celebration
“The Petersheim Academic Expo is an exciting learning-centered week to celebrate together as one community. It illustrates Seton Hall’s ongoing commitment to student and faculty research, mentorship and academic achievement and success as home for scholars from every field to be able to engage in conversation within and between their disciplines,” said Distinguished University Research Professor Sulie Lin Chang, Ph.D., director of the Institute of NeuroImmune Pharmacology and co-chair of the exposition’s planning committee.
Throughout the week, students, in coordination with faculty sponsors, faculty and other university community members, will present their work in research symposia, poster sessions, presentations, panel discussions, theatrical performances, art exhibits, debates, concerts and more. This year’s exposition will be held in a hybrid format, featuring events both in person and virtually through livestream or Microsoft Teams.
Abstract submissions are open and being accepted through Friday, March 14. Those interested should submit their abstract here. For questions on abstract submissions, email Martha Schoene.
A Gathering of Great Minds
“The Petersheim Academic Expo highlights a truly significant gathering of great minds,
bringing us together in celebration where we share all of our gifts, including what
our students have learned and how to put those lessons to use on a professional level.
We gather in the spirit of servant leadership and what great minds can do,” said Professor
Jose L. Lopez, Ph.D., Department of Physics; director of the Office of Grants and Research Services, and
Petersheim co-chair.
The Opening Ceremony will take place from noon to 2 p.m., Tuesday, April 22, in Bethany Hall, Rooms B and C, and will be livestreamed. Monsignor Joseph Reilly, S.T.L., Ph.D., president, will be the keynote speaker.
The Closing Ceremony of Celebration will be held from 3:30 to 5 p.m., Friday, April 25, in the McNulty Hall Amphitheater, featuring a keynote speaker, Professor Isabella Duarte, valedictorian for the Class of 2015 and assistant professor of medical physics in the Department of Radiation Oncology at the Grossman School of Medicine at New York University.
A Valuable Opportunity
Students are encouraged to showcase their engagement as valued members of the university
community through their participation. Participants extend their education beyond
the classroom and learn about the scholarly activities of fellow undergraduate and
graduate students. For those unfamiliar with formal academic presentations, this experience
provides an opportunity to see what they are like. Presenting enables students to
share their academic work and build their résumé. Adding to a résumé a presentation
that is made at a formal university event enhances students’ attractiveness to graduate
schools and potential employers.
They will also gain experience communicating ideas to others, a critical skill regardless of any future educational and professional plans. They will also be eligible to be considered for a Student Travel Award. Awarded to select students at each exposition, the award is a reimbursement stipend that can be used toward the presentation of research at a regional, national or international conference.
Community members are encouraged to host an event by submitting event details through the Petersheim event form here.
Petersheim Academic Exposition keynote information, registration updates and further details will be available soon on the Petersheim Academic Exposition website.
