Celebrating Academic Excellence: Seton Hall students to be Inducted Into Delta Epsilon Sigma (DES) Honor Society
Monday, September 30, 2024
The Department/Program of Catholic Studies is proud to announce the induction of Seton Hall University students into Delta Epsilon Sigma (Alpha Mu Chapter) at 5 p.m., Tuesday, April 22, in the Chapel of the Immaculate Conception. A reception and program will follow the ceremony.
Please consider joining the Delta Epsilon Sigma Honor Society.
To qualify for membership in Delta Epsilon Sigma, candidates must be juniors or seniors with a record of outstanding academic achievement, demonstrate intellectual commitment and embrace a responsibility for service by participating in various community activities. Students from any school, college, or academic discipline at the university are eligible.
Delta Epsilon Sigma (DES) Honor Society has been a part of Seton Hall University since 1941, just three years after the society's founding in 1939. Delta Epsilon Sigma is a prestigious national scholastic honor society for students at Catholic colleges and universities. “We are one of the first Catholic universities in the nation to establish a DES chapter,” said Ines Angeli Murzaku, Ph.D., professor of religion, director of the Catholic Studies Program, and founding chair of the Department of Catholic Studies. “The Seton Hall chapter was revived in 2012 when the Department of Catholic Studies was founded by the Board of Regents and Trustees. This important foundation, along with the Apostolic Blessing of Pope Francis on the new department, sparked a revival of academic faith programs and organizations. Our Seton Hall DES chapter had been dormant for a while until then.”
Undergraduate students (juniors or seniors) must have completed at least 50% of their degree requirements, rank in the top 20% of their class and hold a GPA of 3.5 or higher. In addition, they must receive a faculty nomination or letter of recommendation to be considered for membership in Seton Hall’s Alpha Mu Chapter of DES. Graduate students must have completed half of their degree requirements and maintain a minimum GPA of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale. The deadline for inquiries is March 13, 2025.
