Tuesday, October 15, 2024
The staff from the Office of International Programs (OIP) attended the NAFSA Region X Conference in Atlantic City from October 7-9, 2024. NAFSA is the premier professional association for international educators and is committed to international education and exchange, working to advance policies and practices that build global citizens with the knowledge and skills they need to succeed in today’s interconnected world.
The NAFSA conference provided a platform for OIP staff to explore innovative strategies for enhancing international engagement at the university. Through collaborative sessions they gained valuable insights into emerging trends in global education, including new approaches to study abroad programming and support for international students. The conference reinforced the importance of fostering cross-cultural connections and highlighted best practices for navigating the evolving landscape of international education.
These learnings will inform future initiatives as OIP continues to strengthen the university’s global partnerships and create impactful international experiences for students and scholars. “Meeting with colleagues and government officials at the NAFSA conferences is a great way for us to keep informed on best practices, new developments and resources for colleges and universities. We also support and share information with each other so that we all learn to be better at what we do for our students,” said Johanna Pan-Carr, director of International Student Services.
Additionally, Seton Hall’s International Student Advisor, Andrea Hundley, took center stage at the NAFSA Regional Conference Awards Luncheon, where she was honored with the Rising Professional Award. This award recognizes NAFSA members employed in the field of international education for fewer than five years who have demonstrated a notable commitment to the field through professional or volunteer activities.
NAFSA acknowledged Andrea’s dedication and contribution to organizing events and providing excellent support before and during the NAFSA NY and NJ State Meeting in July 2024 hosted at Seton Hall’s University Center. The award was presented by Katsumi Kishida, the current NAFSA NY and NJ Chair and former Director of the Office of International Programs at Seton Hall, making the moment especially meaningful.
Seton Hall is proud of Andrea’s accomplishments and her continued contributions to the international education community.
