Latino Institute and MLKSA Host 2nd Annual ABC Panel

This year’s theme explores African-Americans and the Vote and is set to acknowledge the struggle for voting rights among both black men and women throughout American history.
On Tuesday, February 25, 2020, the Joseph A. Unanue Latino Institute and the Martin Luther King Scholarship Association (MLKSA) will host the African Diaspora, Black Identity, Colorism Panel (ABC): 2020 Vision, an event in celebration of Black History Month. This year's event has a special emphasis on political identity in the black community. This discussion will highlight the variety of perspectives on these matters and enable individuals to have more well-informed conversations around race and identity.
This year's theme explores African-Americans and the Vote and is set to acknowledge the struggle for voting rights among both black men and women throughout American history. 2020 marks the centennial of the nineteenth amendment, which guaranteed voting rights to women as well as the 150th anniversary of the fifteenth amendment, which ensured voting rights to African American males.
The panel will be moderated by Rev. Forrest Pritchett, Director of Special Projects in Freshman Studies and Director of the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Leadership Program, and Kyle Younger, Director of Professional Development. The panel will be split into two parts: the faculty panel will be moderated by Rev. Pritchett, and the student panel will be moderated by Mr. Younger.
The faculty panel will include Winston Roberts, Associate Dean of Students; W. Mott, Chair of Department of Political Science and Public Affairs; Minenhle Khumalo, professor of Interdisciplinary Studies; and Herv Cherilien, a local detective. The student panel will include Natalia Rosario, Kimani Key, Mark Wood, and Amatullah Shaw.
The Latino Institute and MLKSA thank the co-sponsoring organizations of the event: Lamda Sigma Upsilon Latino Fraternity Inc, Adelante, Haitian Organization Promoting Education, Council of Africana Scholars, Chi Upsilon Sigma National Latin Sorority Inc., the Muslim Student Association, and Lambda Theta Alpha Latin Sorority Inc.
