Dr. Pettit completed a Ph.D. in Toxicology then continued to a postdoctoral fellowship that combined curriculum development, teaching and nutrition research. Continuing research interest is the impact of dietary amino acid restriction on inflammation and oxidative stress mechanisms. Dr. Pettit’s passion for teaching is driven by the desire to increase diversity within the STEM disciplines. Current coursework is regularly updated to integrate new technology, active learning, evidence-based learning, real-world knowledge application, and critical thinking & scientific writing skill development. One of the main focuses in these classes is to make new information interesting and relevant by connecting it with impact on everyday life. Previously taught courses include Cell Biology, Research Methods, Introduction to Public Health, Epidemiology, Public Health Biology and Environmental Health Science. Current courses taught at Seton Hall include those focused on toxicology, ecology, and early major/ non-major biology including General Biology Organisms and General Biology Cell.
