Academic transcripts from institutions outside of the U.S. or Canada must undergo a course-by-course evaluation conducted by an independent credentials evaluation agency that is a member of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES).

Seton Hall has an ongoing partnership with The Evaluation Company (previously SpanTran) for transcript evaluation services. Our University has a custom application that allows our applicants to request their evaluation at a discounted rate.

Failure to submit a required credential evaluation from a NACES member will result in your application for admission being incomplete and, thus, unable to be reviewed.

All applicants whose first language is not English — including those currently enrolled in U.S. institutions — must present evidence of their ability to successfully conduct and complete their studies in English. Qualifying applicants must take and submit official scores attained on one of the following:

• Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL)
• International English Language Testing System (IELTS)

Please arrange to have official TOEFL or IELTS scores sent directly to Seton Hall University. For TOEFL scores, the institution code for Seton Hall is 2811.

Duolingo English Test

The School of Diplomacy and International Relations and the Stillman School of Business will also accept official scores attained on the Duolingo English Test. To inquire whether another select program of study will accept the Duolingo English Test, please contact the Graduate Admissions Director for the college or program for which you have applied.

Official Duolingo English Test scores should be sent directly by selecting Seton Hall University from the list of graduate institutions.

English proficiency exam waiver

Applicants who have received instruction in English at a primary or secondary school, or who have received a degree from an institution in the United States, may be eligible for a waiver of the English proficiency exam requirement. Requests for such waivers must be submitted in writing to the department or college to which the applicant has applied.

In order to obtain a Form I-20 immigration document and begin the F-1 visa application process with a U.S. Embassy/Consulate, you first need to submit an I-20 application and all required documentation to the Office of International Programs (OIP).

Upon reviewing a completed I-20 application and supporting documents as required by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, the OIP will issue the Form I-20. More details are on the OIP Incoming F1 Students webpage. Students who seek to study under the J-1 status should email the OIP for additional guidance.

For an I-20, you will need:

• Application for Form I-20
• Financial support form and financial documents
• Copy of your passport
• Students currently studying in the U.S. on an F1 visa must also fill out the SEVIS Transfer Questionnaire (page 8) and request their current institution to transfer their SEVIS record to Seton Hall

It is the responsibility of each international student to become familiar with and abide by immigration regulations. OIP provides support to students on these issues, as well as reporting immigration matters to the DHS through SEVIS (the federal immigration database).
