Seton Hall Launches Redesigned Digital Badging Platform

Image of a man holding a tabletThe Teaching, Learning and Technology Center (TLTC) is proud to announce the launch of the newly redesigned Seton Hall University (SHU) Badges platform, an advanced badging and micro-credentialing system designed to highlight learning that extends beyond the traditional transcript.

Digital badges provide students, faculty and staff with a meaningful way to capture, verify and showcase skills and achievements. Each badge contains embedded metadata that identifies the issuing organization, outlines the criteria for earning and notes the date of completion. These verified credentials can be shared on resumes, LinkedIn profiles and digital portfolios, giving employers, graduate programs and professional networks a more complete picture of an individual’s capabilities.

"We are so appreciative of the TLTC and the badging platform," said Dean Karen Van Norman. "Being able to offer this to students who complete our THRIVE program is a great boost to them and to the program itself. The TLTC made this project incredibly easy to implement for us. We will be using this again for future programs."

The redesigned platform makes it easier for faculty, staff and departments to design and propose badges that reflect Seton Hall’s mission and the wide range of skills fostered on campus. In the past, departments issued badges to mark training completions or gamify activities. The new platform builds on that history with richer, more customizable opportunities for recognition.

  • Explore Guides with simple instructions for claiming and sharing badges on LinkedIn and other platforms.

  • Request a Badge form for departments, programs and organizations to create new badges.

Who can Participate

  • Students can earn badges for academic achievements, leadership roles, internships and extracurricular activities.

  • Faculty and staff may receive badges for professional development, scholarship, technology training and workplace skills.

  • Campus organizations, including student clubs, career services and human resources, can design and award badges to participants.
