Catholic Literature and Film; Incarnational Love & Suffering
Friday, January 13, 2017
The Catholic Studies program at Seton Hall University proudly presents Catholic Literature and Film: Incarnational Love and Suffering, a book discussion with Dr. Nancy Enright on Tuesday, January 24, 2017 at 4 p.m. in the Faculty Lounge, University Center. The event is free and open to the public.
About The Event
In this talk, Dr. Enright will discuss her new book, Catholic Literature and Film: Incarnational Love and Suffering (Lexington Books, 2016), which explores six literary works dealing with Catholic themes
and the film versions of these works. Her analysis reveals the incarnational, sacramental
view present in the texts, which can also be seen in their film versions. She demonstrates
how Catholic—and indeed any Christian—interpretations of literature or film or any
other art form is rooted in an iconic and sacramental understanding of imagery as
a means of conveying the sacred. Catholic spirituality lends itself to this sort of
approach, she argues, as it is deeply rooted in the ability to see sacred things through
physical means.
