2025 Archbishop John J. Myers Lecture Series on Law, Society and Faith Presents Eastern Orthodox, Roman Catholic Relations. How Far Toward Unity Can We Go? A Lecture by Tamara Grdzelidze, Ph.D., at 2 p.m., Wednesday, April 9, in the University Center Chancellor Suite.
Tamara Grdzelidze is a professor of Religious Studies at Ilia State University in Tbilisi, Georgia. She will present a lecture on building unity between Eastern Orthodox and Roman Catholic.
Grdzelidze is a theologian and Orthodox scholar with degrees from Tbilisi University, St. Vladimir's Theological Seminary, and Oxford University. For 13 years, she was an Orthodox member of the Commission on Faith and Order of the World Council of Churches. She also served for four years (2013-2017) as Georgia's ambassador to the Holy See. Grdzelidze has published greatly on topics such as Georgian hagiography, church history, Orthodoxy and inter-confessional dialogue, including notable works like Georgian Monks on Mount Athos: Two Eleventh Century Lives of the Hegoumenoi of Iviron (2009) and Reading the Gospels with the Early Church: A Guide (2013).

Myers, fifth Archbishop of Newark, for his faithful and steadfast promotion of our Catholic mission and the leadership and guidance he gave to Seton Hall University. This series was inaugurated on the occasions of the Apostolic Blessing of the Holy Father Pope Francis and the first anniversary of the Department of Catholic Studies.
