Inside the Core Romero-King Week
Tuesday, March 26, 2024
Inside the Core we begin the coming week, Holy Week, with the opening Vigil-on-the-Green for Romero-King. This tradition began in 2020 (online as this was, of course, the beginning of the pandemic), and it has continued annually since then. It commemorates the martyrdoms of St. Oscar Romero (March 24, 1980) and Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr. (April 4, 1968). This year, since March 24 is a Sunday, we begin on Monday, March 25 at 12:45 p.m. on the campus green. Faculty, administrators, and students read aloud from the writings of both men in a ceremony that highlights their importance in terms of faith, social justice, and human rights. The closing ceremony will be Thursday, April 4, at 12:45 p.m. for our second Vigil-on-the-Green. Please join us!
In the intervening week and a half we will host Fr. Raimundo Rivera on Wed., March 27 at 2 p.m. in the Beck Rooms. Fr. Rivera is from El Salvador, met (and served on the altar as an altar server) with St. Oscar Romero and heard him preach several times. Finally, on Thursday, April 4, at 3:30 in the Core Center (Mooney 339), Rev. Forrest Pritchett will give a talk on “MLK and Myths.” This will be a wonderful closure to the week.
All these events are also available on TEAMS, though we encourage everyone to come in person. Here are the links for the events:

April 4 will be a full day, but we encourage you to attend any and all of these events.
So please join us for a full week and a half, with the triduum, including Easter Sunday, in the middle! Pax et bonum.
