Dr. Ruth Tsuria, Dept. of Communication.
Inside the Core we are pleased to host our last Scholars' Forum for the semester and academic year 2021-2022, with Dr. Ruth Tsuria of COAR, Department of Communication. Dr. Tsuria will be presenting on her recent book, Digital Media: Understanding Religious Practice in Digital Media, co-edited with Heidi A. Campbell (Routledge, 2021).
As described, "this book offers a critical and systematic survey of the study of religion
and digital media. It covers religious engagement with a wide range of digital media
forms and highlights examples of new media engagement in all five of the major world
religions. From mobile apps and video games to virtual reality and social media. Working
on this book, Dr. Tsuria and Dr. Campbell were enable to engage a multiplicity of
perspectives from all major world religions, as well as from various loci."

Dr. Tsuria is also part of the Mission Mentors program, where she is partnering with Dr. Chad Thralls, Core Fellow, on bringing contemplative prayer into Core I: Journey of Transformation. As described by Dr. Tsuria: "This project sought to answer the need for more mental health resources from our students, by creating a repository of contemplative practices that can be used in Journey of Transformation (JoT). Like JoT texts, these practices come from a variety of religious traditions, including Catholic, Islam, Hinduism, Buddhism, etc. The resources manual has step-by-step instructions, as well as, videos, tips and other information to help each instructor use this."
