Current Projects

  1. Assist and guide the implementation of CIM, the curriculum management tool acquired by the University.
    • This project is critical to the integrity of the curriculum data that is housed in the Banner SIS. This data feeds institutional reports, the University catalogs, and the University web presence. Ensuring that a process by which curriculum addition and changes, as they are approved by university governance structures, is accurately represented in the University student information system is critical and paramount to the University’s success.

  2. Develop an approval workflow for requests to add/change/remove data in Banner.
    • It is critical to understand the impact that changes to information in Banner and other systems will have on institutional reports and other systems that rely on the data. When changes are necessary, it is important to understand the full scope of work and appropriate timing to ensure the changes are implemented across all necessary systems.

  3. Create and maintain a university data dictionary.
    • It is critical that the University maintains a data dictionary, the centralized repository of information about the University’s data, the definitions, relationships to other data, origin, usage, and format. Ensuring that the University documents existing detail codes, admit codes and other data to transparently indicate how and why these are being used.

  4. Assist and guide the implementation of the Adjunct Pay project (FLAC for adjuncts).
    • As the project unfolds, data fields and validation tables in Banner may need to be rethought or updated to accommodate the processing and transition of adjunct contracts to an online format.

  5. Assess and standardize the way Banner person records and name types are created in the student information system.
    • There are various ways person records have been created in Banner for different needs at the University. This process has not been consistent or well documented at the University and should be revaluated.

  6. Investigate how we can better track/code/maintain students/employees in special programs (e.g. EOP, international students, priests).
    • Records are not always kept up to date which causes data issues when trying to report the number of students in these programs or when processing bills associated with them.

Completed Projects

  1. Establish a University Data Governance web presence.
    • The website will be update regularly to clearly communicate with the University community and transparently provide resources to offices and departments on the appropriate use University data in their decision-making and reporting requirements.
