Panel Discussion on Ukraine: 'From Victory to Survival: The Prospects for Ukraine in the Third Year of War'
Monday, April 15, 2024
Ukraine’s successes in the year following Russia’s unprovoked invasion in February 2022 raised hopes that a full-fledged victory might be attainable. The events of the past year, from the failure to achieve a significant breakthrough in the Ukrainian offensive of the summer of 2023 to the refusal of the U.S. Congress to approve much-needed military aid, have dampened these optimistic prognoses.
What is the current situation on the front lines? How long can Ukraine hold out without American support? If support is approved, will it be enough to turn the tide? How is the continuing strain of war, including massive Russian airstrikes on civilian targets, impacting the morale and spirit of the Ukrainian people?
Explore these and other related questions in an upcoming panel discussion at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 18, 2024, in Fahy Hall, Room 236. The discussion, “From Victory to Survival: The Prospects for Ukraine in the Third Year of War,” will feature Professors Margarita Balmaceda, Maxim Matusevich and Nathaniel Knight.
This event is sponsored by the Slavic Club and the Russian and East European Studies Program. Refreshments will be served.
