Timeline for Obtaining IRB Approval
The IRB meets once a month from September through June. In order to be placed on the IRB agenda for a given month, all application and related material for review must be electronically submitted to the IRB Office by 5 p.m. on the date of the submission deadline. Except for November (Thanksgiving) and December (Christmas), the Board generally meets on the last Wednesday of the month during the academic year, with submission deadlines at least two weeks prior to the meeting date.
Applicants will be notified in writing of the Board's decision approximately 1 weeks after the meeting.
How much time to allow for obtaining approval: Researchers planning to conduct research with human subjects should allow at least two months for the review process, since the IRB may request revisions or additional information before granting final approval. Most revisions, if submitted in a timely fashion, can be reviewed at the next Board meeting. However, serious issues may take more than one additional meeting to resolve. Expert consultants from outside the University may be brought in at the request of any member of the IRB or its Chairperson.
