The Buccino Leadership Institute at Seton Hall University recently brought an initiative to life by integrating undergraduate and graduate student future leaders into a cutting-edge simulation. On Thursday, March 13, 2025, this event provided students with an invaluable professional development opportunity through an immersive Interview Simulation experience.

As part of this initiative, the event was led by a collaboration of faculty and industry professionals, including a faculty fellow of the Buccino Leadership Institute and the director of clinical simulation from Seton Hall's School of Health and Medical Sciences. Additionally, the event contributed to fulfilling Dean Elizabeth Halpin's Experiential Fellow project requirements.

The simulation was designed to expand students' understanding of simulation theory and debriefing strategies while allowing them to apply real-world best practices. Junior and senior leaders were paired with a professional volunteer and a Master of Health Administration student. The simulation included a traditional interview segment featuring commonly asked questions as well as a scenario requiring participants to think on their feet and demonstrate problem-solving skills.

The experience proved transformative for all involved. Students received in-depth feedback from their interviewers, helping them refine their communication, professionalism and self-advocacy skills. MHA students also benefited by honing their interviewing and feedback delivery skills, receiving valuable insights from professional volunteers. The experience fostered skill development in career readiness, effective communication and professionalism, all essential competencies for success in today’s workforce.

This event was made possible through the support of partners in the MHA department, University Career Center, Human Resources and dedicated alumni and Buccino Leadership Institute Advisory Council members. Their time and expertise were instrumental in making this initiative a success.

The results of this impactful event will be shared at the upcoming Petersheim Academic Exposition, where data and insights will be presented as part of the Buccino Leadership Institute's commitment to experiential learning.

A special acknowledgment is extended to Jennifer McCarthy, Stanton Brown, Elizabeth Halpin, Staysha Taylor and Nalin Johri for their contributions in making this initiative a reality. The Buccino Leadership Institute continues to lead the way in providing innovative and experiential learning opportunities for its students, ensuring they are prepared to excel in their professional journeys.
