Dr. Nicholas Snow reflects on Transformation and Authenticity: A Senior Scholar's Own Journey of Transformation in the second of four retreats for faculty and administrators of all faiths.
The Heart of the University Retreat Series gives faculty and administrators of all faiths the opportunity for input and guided reflection. The series is co-sponsored by the Office of Mission and Ministry, and the Center for Vocation and Servant Leadership.
The second retreat, given by Dr. Nicholas Snow on the theme of Transformation and Authenticity: A Senior Scholar's Own Journey of Transformation, will be held on Thursday, October 22, 2020, from 9 to 11 a.m. via Microsoft Teams.
A long academic career is composed of many "journeys of transformation." When caught up in events like a global pandemic, a recession and a social justice movement, it can be difficult to notice the transformative aspects of our response to these experiences. The stages of an academic career shape the teacher, scholar and person that we become. In this retreat we will discuss some of the uplifting aspects and opportunities of academic life, using four transcendental ideas as touchstones: be attentive, be intelligent, be reasonable and be responsible.
Nicholas Snow, PhD is Founding Endowed Professor of Chemistry and Biochemistry, a GEM Teaching Fellow and a Peer Leader in the Praxis Program. He has been a recipient of the Bishop Bernard J. McQuaid Medal for Distinguished Service.
