Presidential Investiture: Celebrating the Past, Present and Future of Seton Hall

shu statue captured at night Seton Hall will celebrate the investiture of its 22nd president, Monsignor Joseph Reilly, S.T.L., Ph.D., on Monday, November 4, 2024. Customarily held during a president’s first year, the investiture is a longstanding academic tradition that formally confers the authority and symbols of the office.

Keeping with tradition, the day will begin with the Investiture Mass at 9:30 a.m. in the Event Room of the University Center, followed by the Investiture Ceremony at 11:30 a.m. in Walsh Gymnasium. A reception will immediately follow the ceremony in the Richard and Sheila Regan Fieldhouse.

Hundreds of students, faculty members, administrators, alumni, clergy, government officials and representatives from colleges and universities throughout the nation will gather to celebrate this new chapter in the University’s history.

A leader who has been deeply involved with the University since his arrival as a student in 1979, Monsignor Reilly was appointed by the Board of Regents in April and took office on July 1. His appointment marked the return of a priest-president to Seton Hall, which has been a hallmark of the University for 146 years of its 168-year history. Monsignor Reilly is bringing a profound sense of service, humility and faith to the presidency, embodying Seton Hall’s commitment to helping students discern and best use their God-given gifts to serve the human family.

The weeks leading up to the investiture will feature various events designed to engage students, faculty, staff, alumni and friends of the University. All members of the University community are invited and encouraged to participate as their schedules allow.

For those unavailable to attend in person, the Investiture Mass and Ceremony will be livestreamed on the University’s website on the day of the event. For additional information about the investiture and related events, please visit the Presidential Investiture website.
