Kelly Farquharson to Speak about Promoting Research through Social Media
Monday, September 18th, 2023
On Friday, September 22, 2023, from 10-11 a.m., Kelly Farquharson, Ph.D., Associate Professor of Speech-Language Pathology at Florida State University, will offer an interactive presentation on “Using Social Media to Bring Research to Life.” The event will be held in Teams.
With an active Instagram account that has over 18,000 followers @classlab_FSU, which features posts about the clinical application of research and includes a popular weekly series called “phonetics Friday” — Farquharson is well positioned to discuss how researchers can access their target audience through available social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, TikTok, etc.). In this CFD workshop, faculty will be asked to consider what their niche area and target audience might be. Brainstorming time will allow attendees to consider what kind of information they would find beneficial if presented on social media and what type of information they can share.
In addition to being an Associate Professor of Speech-Language Pathology (SLP), Farquharson is Director of the Children's Literacy and Speech Sound Lab at Florida State University. The mission of her work is to help children with speech and language impairments achieve classroom success. Her research is published in the American Journal of Speech Language Pathology, the Journal of Speech Language and Hearing Research, Language, Speech and Hearing Services in Schools, Journal of Communication Disorders, and the International Journal of Speech Language Pathology, among others. She received the 2017 Patricia C. Lindamood Clinical Leadership Award at the Ohio School Speech Pathology and Educational Audiology Conference.
This event is sponsored by the Center of Faculty Development.
