Overview
Greetings! I am very excited to share with you the activities and achievements of our students and faculties in recent years.
For the last ten years, the Department of Physics continued it's growth with an increase in the undergraduate majors by almost 300%. Our total undergraduate enrollment has reached to 110 students and with some of the highest SAT and ACT scores of the all incoming students of SHU. The Physics Department has the largest graduating classes of all time in reaching to 17 and 18 graduates for the last two years.
Our graduates have received full scholarships from distinguished institutions such as Harvard University, Columbia University, Duke University and found employment in high-tech industry companies such as Evans Analytical Laboratories in Princeton. The success of the Physics Department, in both attracting academically strong students and graduating students with promising career tracks is mostly due to excellent advising and mentoring of the students by the Physics faculty and hands-on research experiences our students receive in addition to a strong analytical education. Our SHU-New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) Physics + Engineering Dual degree program has continued to grow and our students who are transferred to NJIT Engineering Programs continue to excel academically.
The Physics Faculty (4 tenured faculty) has research to a total of 40 scholarship activities yearly in the form of peer-reviewed articles, oral and poster presentations and invited talks.
We have started a new MS in Physics Graduate Program in 2018-2019. We already have our first graduate class of students enrolled in the program taking graduate physics courses and conducting cutting edge research in experimental and computational physics, such as photovoltaics, plasma sciences, and nanoelectronics.
I am looking forward to the future growth of our department both in research and excellence in teaching our future undergraduate and graduate students.

Location and Facilities
At the College of Arts and Sciences, research isn't just our priority; it's our mission. All students, including freshmen, are trained in and have access to all of our state-of-the-art instrumentation, including magnetic resonance spectrometers, mass spectrometer-based separation instruments and next generation sequencing computational facilities. Our faculty, undergraduates and graduate students work together on research using the apprenticeship model common to advanced science. And it all takes place in our Science and Technology Center, which underwent a $35 million renovation in 2007 that provided students and faculty with an additional 35,000 square feet of space. It boasts one of the most innovative and energy-efficient teaching and research facilities for science and technology in the country.
