Students at the “Stop the Bleed” Certification Training Event
On February 12, 2025, Seton Hall University's chapter of Alpha Epsilon Delta (AED), the national pre-health honor society, hosted a highly impactful “Stop the Bleed” training event. This initiative, led by AED President Lauren Cinquino, provided Seton Hall students with essential skills and certification in hemorrhage control—skills that are crucial for healthcare professionals in emergency situations.
The “Stop the Bleed” training, designed to teach individuals how to stop life-threatening bleeding in emergency situations, was a perfect fit for AED’s mission to empower pre-health students with the knowledge and tools needed to thrive in healthcare careers.
During the event, students were instructed in techniques such as wound packing, applying tourniquets and other methods of bleeding control. The program included hands-on practice, allowing participants to gain confidence in these life-saving skills. Upon completion, attendees received official certification, which will prove valuable as they pursue careers in medicine, emergency response and other healthcare fields.
“The ‘Stop the Bleed’ event was a wonderful opportunity for our students to learn practical, life-saving skills that will serve them well in their future healthcare careers,” said Chantal Vergara, director of the Pre-Professional Advising Center (P-PAC) and AED advisor. “As future healthcare professionals, we need to be prepared for every scenario, and learning how to stop the bleed is a fundamental skill that could save lives,” added Lauren Cinquino, AED president.
The event not only equipped students with practical skills but also fostered a sense of responsibility in helping others during times of crisis. With the demand for skilled healthcare workers continuing to rise, this hands-on training is an essential addition to the academic preparation of future professionals.
The “Stop the Bleed” event was a resounding success, highlighting the dedication of AED and Seton Hall University to providing pre-health students with opportunities to grow both academically and professionally. Students left the event more prepared to face the challenges of healthcare, knowing they have the tools to make a real difference when it matters most.
By offering these training opportunities, Seton Hall continues to empower its students to become compassionate and competent healthcare leaders, making this event a valuable part of their pre-health journey.
