Monsignor Reilly

As Seton Hall prepares to officially welcome Monsignor Joseph Reilly, S.T.L., Ph.D., as its 22nd president on Monday, November 4, 2024, the University community is invited to help celebrate Seton Hall’s exciting new chapter. Monsignor Reilly, who has served the University in various capacities since his arrival as a student in 1979, brings a deep sense of humility and service to the presidency, inspired by the example of Jesus Christ.

Throughout his time at Seton Hall, he has emphasized the importance of fostering hope and faith in an environment of increasing academic excellence. His vision for the University is built on the idea that Seton Hall is more than any one individual — it is a community of students, faculty and staff members, alumni, priests and friends all working together to foster Great Minds and nurture servant leaders.

With the help of God’s grace, Monsignor Reilly is committed to advancing an environment where people are respected, encouraged to share their gifts, and led to discern how those gifts can serve the greater good. He believes the University’s success lies in its identity as a welcoming Catholic institution that provides hardworking students with transformative educational experiences that lead to a lifetime of fulfillment.

Under Monsignor Reilly’s leadership, Seton Hall will continue to rise, guided by a shared mission to serve God, each other and the world. His investiture will launch a new era of Setonian achievement built on a foundation of hope, faith, service and excellence.

What is an Investiture?

An investiture is defined as the "formal ceremony of conferring the authority and symbols of high office," traditionally held during the new president’s first year in office, or at the conclusion of the first year.

Today, universities view investitures as opportunities to welcome a new era and celebrate as a community. Join us in celebrating the road ahead.
