Chair and Program Director
Department of Speech-Language Pathology
I am a speech-language pathologist with expertise in acquired disorders of communication and swallowing.
I completed my clinical fellowship at the Kessler Institute for Rehabilitation, where I was afforded intensive training with rotations in stroke, traumatic brain injury, and spinal cord injury in the acute rehabilitation setting. In 2012 I transitioned to Kessler's outpatient division where, as a senior team member, I collaborated with physiatrists, physical therapists, and occupational therapists in the development of various education and training programs as well as treatment protocols utilized at the local and national levels. My experiences working with the interprofessional team at Kessler developed my guiding clinical principle of providing the best care to every patient in every encounter knowing that leading with empathy and following with expertise can have life changing results.
After serving as an adjunct instructor in the Department of Speech-Language Pathology at Seton Hall for many years, I was appointed as Director of Clinical Education. My work is focused on developing effective methods for clinical education in alignment with program curriculum while providing mentorship and coaching to students during their clinical training. I serve as instructor for topics pertaining to medically based practice including Dysphagia and Neuromotor Disorders of Communication. In addition to these courses, I also offer opportunities for students to engage in research within my own scholarly agenda. My research interests are broad but aligned with my role and expertise and include examining the relationship of cognitive impairment and dysphagia in various populations, patient adherence to clinical programming, practice patterns of SLP’s in rehabilitation, and clinical training and assessment.
As faculty and clinical director, my central aim is to inspire students to be exceptional clinicians who possess the knowledge, skill, and compassion to provide highest quality care to their patients.
