Music has been long recognized as a universal language. Singing, the beginnings of which are the sustained, natural vocal utterances of a cry, a sigh, a shout, or a chant, is the primordial expression of the language of music. Based upon this understanding, it is my belief that the capacity to sing resides innately at core of our humanity. The call of our human nature to express song, however, is not our gift exclusively. In Psalm 98, the ancient biblical psalmist extends the invitation “to sing a new song” not just to the human community, but to “all the earth: let the sea roar and all that fills it; let the floods clap their hands; let the hills sing together for joy at the presence of the Lord.”

The vision that is lifted up through the “new song” would bring all of creation together into one voice that expresses unity among the diverse communities of creation and praise to the Creator.

The courses that I teach are Private Voice, Beginning Voice Class, Music of America, and the University Core course, Journey of Transformation.
