Kelly Shea, Ph.D.
Associate Professor of English/Director of First-Year Writing
Department of English
I teach undergraduate and graduate composition and literature courses; train graduate students as composition instructors; and study, present, and publish on writing, teaching, writing-across-the-curriculum, faculty development, and technology issues - and their intersections. I am a co-leader of the SHU reading-/writing-intensive core proficiency project and work closely with SHU’s Teaching, Learning, and Technology Center on course management systems, virtual instruction platforms, digital humanities tools, and other pedagogy-improvement initiatives.
Education
- PhD, University of Pennsylvania, Graduate School of Education
- M.Ed., Harvard University, Graduate School of Education
- BS, College of William and Mary
Accomplishments
I have contributed to an invited PraxisWiki on teaching with technology in the on-line journal Kairos and will soon release the results of a research study on SHU's use of faculty vs. student on-line tutors in Writing Lab Newsletter. I am also working on research projects relating to assessment of faculty development and writing-across-the-curriculum programs (published in Across the Disciplines) and the care and feeding of faculty writing groups (published in Arts and Humanities in Higher Education). I have also received a SHU University Research Council grant for on-line writing lab (OWL) research.
