All events are virtual unless noted. All events require preregistration to receive access to the event link. Links to the virtual events will be sent closer to the event dates.

All Week

Farinella 5K Virtual Run (October 23-29)
Run, jog or walk in this year's virtual Farinella 5K! Don't forget to wear your Seton Hall gear as you participate in this Seton Hall Weekend tradition. Post on social media using the hashtag #SetonHallWEEKend to be featured on our channels. Register online.

Awards:
Prizes will be awarded to the top two overall male and female runners, and the top two male and female runners in the following age groups: 14 & under, 15 -19, 20 -29, 30 -39, 40 -49, 50 - 59, 60 - 69 and 70+.

To be considered, send us a picture of your 5K time using an app of your choice. Some of our favorites include Strava and Map My Run. You can visit this form to submit your time once you've completed your 5K. You must complete your race and fill out the form by 5 p.m. on Thursday, October 29. Winners will be announced on Friday, October 30.

Intro to Sports Media: Media is changing by the minute and sports is at the forefront of this transformation. 1 p.m. ▸ Alumni Virtual Beer Garden with Jersey Girl Brewery
Join fellow alumni at this interactive virtual event that will showcase a variety of beers from Jersey Girl Brewing, owned by Chuck Aaron, '90, in Hackettstown, New Jersey. The event will include a virtual tour of the brewery, beer tasting (for those who purchase beer in advance), and a live question and answer portion. Registration is open to all alumni. Join us for a virtual tour of Seton Hall's campus and learn about the history behind Seton Hall's landmark buildings. Alan Delozier, university archivist and adjunct associate professor of Catholic Studies, will provide historical background as he leads you to well-known and unique spaces on campus. 11 a.m. ▸ Space 154 Virtual Tour
Space154 supports active learning by providing an open, informal environment for students and faculty alike to explore, create and innovate with 21st century tools and technologies. Space154 enables new forms of research, learning and creativity through the exploration of 3D printing, coding using robots and Raspberry PI and Arduino computers, virtual reality stations and a chroma key wall (green screen). Coming soon to Space 154 is a Lego wall to stimulate design thinking and prototyping. Q&A and live demonstrations will be part of the tour. Add this event to your calendar. Join the virtual event.

4 p.m. ▸ Bargaining with the Machine: Technology, Surveillance and the Social Contract, Robert Pallitto, Ph.D., J.D., Professor of Political Science in the Department of Political Science and Public Affairs
Professor Rob Pallitto will discuss his new book, Bargaining with the Machine: Technology, Surveillance and the Social Contract (University Press of Kansas 2020). The book explores the privacy dilemmas we face when using social media, shopping online, and submitting to biometric scans. Do we really have a choice about surrendering personal information? What do such encounters tell us about the state of our liberties under the modern social contract? After a brief presentation, we will discuss these and other questions arising at the intersection of technology and politics. Join the virtual event.

Calling all alumni! Celebrate National Pumpkin Day with Alumni Engagement and Philanthropy by painting a Seton Hall themed pumpkin! Join us at 6:30p, with your favorite cocktail, as we paint a pumpkin with instructor from Painting with a Twist in Montville, NJ. Event is BYOP – Bring Your Own Pumpkin (pumpkins should be 8-10lbs). Registration includes a visual aid, paintbrush and paint that will ship to you, one week prior to the event. In order to receive your supplies on time, you must register by October 19. The "How I Got Here" series provides students the opportunity to get a firsthand perspective about the careers enjoyed by talented Seton Hall parents. Lata will share the hurdles she faced in her work in venture-funded tech start-ups and will provide life lessons to help women and women-of-color founders as they begin their own entrepreneurial journeys. 11:30 a.m. - 12:15 p.m. ▸ Back to School with Robert Scoleveno, Ph.D., R.N, Clinical Associate Professor and Director, Clinical Simulation
Join Dr. Scoloveno on an informative session about simulation, nursing, as well as interprofessional education. He will give a virtual tour of the simulation space and how it is used in the classroom and show a short video on simulation in action. Join the virtual event.

1:30 - 2:30 p.m. ▸ Family and Genealogy Workshop
This event will introduce basic techniques and some advanced strategies for the Seton Hall community to explore in order to build their very own family history tree. Included will be an introduction to resources found in the Seton Hall University Archives & Special Collections Center such as historic newspapers, yearbooks, bulletins, and other specialized resources that can be utilized in order to tell the story of students, alumni, and anyone who has a connection to the school. Join the Student Portfolio Management I class and learn what it is like to run a real portfolio. Students apply equity valuation and portfolio management techniques to enhance practical knowledge in security valuation, portfolio management, and the dynamics of financial markets. Michael will discuss his work as an experienced physician assistant with a demonstrated history of university-level teaching in a physician assistant program and in active clinical practice. 5 - 5:45 p.m. ▸ Back to school class with Kelly Harris, PhD, Chair, Africana Studies
Join Dr. Harris on an informative presentation on the Montgomery Bus Boycott with special attention to Rosa Parks and the numerous grassroot organizations that were critical to the success of the boycott. Attendees will be challenged to think about leadership in a broader context than simply charismatic leaders. The presentation will also highlight current research in Africana Studies about Rosa Parks, Black women activists, and the history of the Civil Rights Movement. Join the virtual event.

Nora is a Judge at DeKalb County Magistrate Court and Phil is an executive level marketing leader with over a decade of customer acquisition, multicultural and consumer behavior experience. Italy in the Footsteps of the Saints: Italy enjoys a pre-eminence as a spiritual center for the Christian world alongside its importance in the development of Western civilization's art, music, architecture and political thought. This presentation will examine the interplay between Italy's profound spiritual heritage and cultural achievements, focusing on the contributions of such key figures as the Apostles Peter and Paul, Saints Francis and Clare of Assisi, Saint Catherine of Siena and Saint Ignatius of Loyola. 10 a.m. ▸ Seton Hall's New Digital Mapping Platform – Virtual Presentation
Want to learn about a new digital platform that allows the public to explore Seton Hall's campus and take guided tours virtually? Technical Services Archivist Sheridan Sayles and Assistant Dean of Special Collections and the Gallery Sarah Ponichtera will discuss Seton Hall's exciting new digital mapping project, as well as ways you can get involved and contribute to the project. Prosecute and Punish? Truth and Reconciliation? In this class, we will discuss the ways in which states, societies, and international law respond to atrocities. Why did the Allies form a Tribunal at Nuremberg to try the Nazi leadership? What does the International Criminal Court really do? Why did South Africa choose to create a Truth and Reconciliation Commission? When is it the right choice to prosecute war criminals and when they should they be protected from prosecution? 12:30. - 1:15 p.m. ▸ Back to School with Professor John Saccoman, Professor and Chair, Department of Mathematics and Computer Science
The Axioms of Sabermetrics. Sabermetrics is the term coined by its guru Bill James to mean "The search for objective truth about baseball." It is an acronym using SABR (Society for American Baseball Research). In mathematics, we define axioms to be those statements which we accept without proof. In the 1985 edition of his annual Baseball Abstract, James described the Axioms of Sabermetrics, and these principles guide baseball analytics departments today. In this talk, Professor Saccoman will present these axioms in the context of the truncated 2020 major league baseball season. Join the virtual event.

11 a.m. ▸ Back to School with Anthony Sciglitano, Associate Professor of Religion
This class examines the fundamental question: "Is death bad, and, if so, why?" To help us think through this question we will read and discuss together one ancient and one contemporary philosopher, Epicurus and Thomas Nagel respectively. Epicurus seeks to calm our fears and lead us toward serenity in our confrontation with death through philosophical insight. Nagel illuminates the phenomenon of death through considerations of potential, relations and time. Nor does he neglect to counter the Epicurean argument. Join the virtual event.
