Living out the commitment to moral education has been the foundation of Seton Hall University for more than 150 years — and continues to be our mission in the 21st century. Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Charter Day offers our community an opportunity to reflect on the University’s great history, and to renew our commitment to that purpose and mission. Charter Day commemorates the granting of a charter to Seton Hall College by the State of New Jersey in 1861, and at Charter Day we salute the year of our founding.

During the Charter Day event there is a reading of the charter and a keynote speaker. We also honor recipients of the Bishop Bernard J. McQuaid Medal for Distinguished Service. This award recognizes the unflagging efforts of members of the University community who strive with excellence to fulfill Seton Hall’s mission every day. Commissioned in 1964 in honor of the first president of Seton Hall, the medal is presented to members of the University faculty, staff and administration who render outstanding service to the institution.

In addition, we recognize recipients of the President’s Award for Student Service as well as Seton Hall's Servant Leader Scholars.
