Hunger and Homeless Programming
The Community FoodBank of New Jersey fights hunger and poverty in the local area; volunteers at the FoodBank will work in a warehouse setting to sort donated goods.- IFPO (Interfaith Food Pantry of the Oranges)
The Interfaith Food Pantry of the Oranges (IFPO) volunteers will assist in meeting the essential human needs of food-insecure residents of Orange and East Orange by sorting food donations and distributing them to local families. - St. John’s Soup Kitchen
At St. John’s Soup Kitchen in Newark, volunteers are needed to assist in preparing lunch and distributing breakfast. Students have the opportunity to interact with and learn from people who are experiencing food insecurity and to hear their stories. - Pierre Toussaint Food Pantry
At the Pierre Toussaint Food Pantry in Newark, volunteers pack and distribute grocery bags of food to families and individuals in need. - Our Lady of Sorrows Food Pantry
Volunteer to address the needs of food insecurity right in South Orange. At the OLS Food Pantry volunteers will help unpack bulk food donations to be distributed throughout the month. - S.O.F.T - Securing Our Future Today
The DOVE program creates care packages bi-weekly for our partner S.O.F.T. This organization provides food packs to children on food stamps and free/reduced lunches who do not have access to enough food over the weekends. They strive to raise awareness of and contribute to the fight against food insecurity, specifically among children.
Education Programming
DOVE volunteers sign up to tutor students in need at Seth Boyden Elementary School on a weekly basis. Volunteers commit to a full semester of tutoring and are paired up with a consistent elementary school student in order to foster consistency in their relationship throughout the school year.- Don Bosco ESL
At Our Lady of the Valley Parish in Orange DOVE volunteers commit to weekly ESL tutoring. Students will have the opportunity to teach different levels of English to individuals learning the language for the first time.
Social Care Programming
Pillar Care Continuum is dedicated to enhancing the lives of people with disabilities and other special needs. Volunteer at one of these facilities to play games, make crafts, and get to know these beautifully unique individuals.- Adopt a Grandparent
Enjoy weekly Bingo nights with senior residents of the White House Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center Orange. - Carnival of FUN
Join DOVE in hosting a carnival on Seton Hall’s main campus catering to guests with special needs. Help participants play carnival games, hand out prizes, serve dinner and dance with our visitors. Carnival themes have included Halloween, Valentine's and Luau nights! - Pirate’s Closet
DOVE has partnered with the Career Center on campus to provide student volunteers who will help organize, distribute and run the “Pirate’s Closet” on campus. The Pirate's Closet is an invaluable resource for students seeking to enhance their professional image and gain a competitive edge in the job market. The closet offers students access to a variety of professional attire, ranging from business suits to interview-appropriate attire, at no cost. *If you are or know of a student in need of these services, please visit the Pirate’s Closet Website.
Service on Saturdays (SOS)
The SOS program is an opportunity to explore your passions through service, while meeting new friends and making connections with local agencies. The mission of SOS is to Serve the Community, Serve the University and Serve the Student.
Seton Hall students volunteer on Saturdays throughout the semester in meaningful community outreach at a variety of locations including PeaceWorks, the South Orange Environmental Commission, Liberty State Park, and many more.
Youth Mentorship Programming
At Raphael’s Life House in Elizabeth, teenage mothers find a home where they can rebuild their lives and give their babies a positive start in life. Give these new mothers a break by babysitting their newborns at the “Baby DOVE Club”.- Seton Stories
At the South Orange Library volunteers provide local children with an interactive literacy experience during a story time filled with singing and reading favorite children’s books. - Don Bosco Sports Ministry
At the Don Bosco youth center in Orange, volunteers spend time playing basketball and taking part in a variety of other fun activities while being a positive presence to local youth. - Covenant House Community Nights
Volunteer to spend time with homeless youth in Newark at Covenant House by hosting a dinner and movie night. - MFEE Mentoring
DOVE volunteers mentor children weekly in partnership with The Montclair Fund for Educational Excellence. Volunteers help students with homework, test prep, and core skill development in English and math. The students' needs are dynamic and change over time - what is most important is patience and an encouraging approach to supporting the students. - Bernice’s Place Mentoring
Bernice’s Place is the answer for many homeless and at-risk children in Elizabeth. In this after-school program, DOVE volunteers commit a full semester to weekly visits in which they mentor and spend time with this vulnerable population. Bernice’s Place provides a safe, fun, and supportive environment where children can socialize and, in many cases, build long-lasting bonds with other homeless and near-homeless children, knowing that they are not alone.
