Heart of the University, Faculty Retreat Series 2024-25

Nancy EnrightThe Heart of the University Retreat Series gives faculty and administrators of all faiths the opportunity for input and guided reflection.  The series is co-sponsored by the Office of Mission and Ministry, and the Center for Vocation and Servant Leadership.

The second retreat, given by Nancy Enright, Ph.D., on the theme of "Mission Integration and the Disciplines: The Thread that Ties It All Together," will be held from 9-11 a.m., Thursday, November 14, 2024, in the Beck Rooms (Walsh Library, first floor) and via Microsoft Teams.

In the time of Dante, Petrarch and Chaucer, theology was called “the Queen of the Sciences,” but today theology is often relegated to the margins of the academic world.  Both St. John Paul II and Pope Francis have stated that a Catholic university has a unique calling to explore the disciplines, with all the depth and richness of the best of contemporary scholarship, in light of the inspiring legacy of the Catholic Intellectual Tradition. We will examine Mission as central to all we do, in light of the theological lens it offers, with its importance in linking the disciplines to Catholic social teaching, and its role as a grounding force enabling us to form community.

Enright is a professor of English and the director of the University Core. She is the author/co-editor of three books, the latest being The Passion Narratives of Saints Perpetua, Felicity, and their Fellow Martyrs (Lexington, summer 2024).

If you have any questions, please contact Linda Garofalo or Francia Peterson at [email protected].
