The Twelfth Annual Servant Leadership Day
Thursday, March 7, 2024
The Twelfth Annual Servant Leadership Day is a celebration of Seton Hall University’s commitment to forming students as "servant leaders in a global society." Sponsored by the Center for Vocation and Servant Leadership, and the Office of Mission & Ministry, it is made possible by the generous benefaction of Colleen and Hank D’Alessandro, Regent. Its purpose is to provide inspiration to the Center’s Servant Leader Scholars and to all the University constituencies dedicated to the principles and practice of "servant leadership."
To celebrate this event, all members of the Seton Hall community are invited to a talk given by Kevin Cummings on Tuesday, April 16, from 4-5 p.m., in the Chancellor’s Suite, Student Center, lower level. His topic is "The Journey is the Destination."
Kevin Cummings’ journey has focused on the essence of servant leadership. He will discuss the ideas and transformative nature of continual growth, change and improvement on the path to being the best version of oneself. The goal is to serve God, family, and community. The journey is not a mere pursuit of personal gain but a focus on selfless giving and answering the questions: 1) Are you a leader who serves or a self-serving leader? 2) Can you be successful in business and still serve the greater good?
It is moving from success with its material rewards to significance where one lives a purposeful life and creates a legacy of service to one's family, co-workers, and community.
Kevin Cummings is currently a Corporate Director at Citizens Financial Group. For 14 years he was the CEO of Investors Bank before its merger with Citizens Financial in 2022 in a transaction valued at more than $3.5 billion. He led a transformation of the culture and business while growing Investors Bank from $5 billion in 2008 to $28 billion. He is the recipient of the NJ Ernst and Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award for this transformative growth. His most notable achievement has been leading the Bank's charitable efforts by donating over $60 million in philanthropy and countless hours of service to the communities served by the Bank during his tenure as CEO.
