Meal Plan Policy

Purpose

This policy establishes the rules and regulations for student meal plans.

Scope

University Policy

Definitions

Meal plan: A prepaid meal program that provides unlimited or a designated amount of meals within a given period as assigned by the University and Gourmet Dining.

Pirate Bucks: a declining balance of points used to buy items a la cart at Starbucks, Dunkin’, Jersey Mike’s, Pirate Express, By The Slice or Café Jubilee.

Resident student: a full-time student who applied for university housing and lives in one of the University sponsored residence halls or apartments.

Policy

A student must be actively registered for the current term that the meal plan is to be purchased and used.

All resident students living in the residence halls on campus (Aquinas, Boland, Cabrini, Neumann, Serra, and Xavier) are required to have a meal plan. Resident students residing in campus apartments (Ora and Turrell Manors) are not required to purchase a meal plan. Resident students who are housed on campus and entered Seton Hall University as an incoming freshmen or transfer student beginning in fall 2018 may only elect to have one of the unlimited meal plans.

All resident students will be defaulted into meal plan U with $75 pirate bucks.

Meal Plan selections from the fall term will automatically roll over to the spring term. However, meal plan selections from the spring term do not automatically roll over to the fall terms.

Commuter students who no longer wish to have a meal plan for the spring semester must notify the Housing and Residence Life office via email at [email protected] by the last day of add/drop.

Plans with meals per week have their Meal Plan balance reset each Sunday for the new week. Plans with meals per semester work as a declining balance with no limit to the amount of meals consumed each week if there are meals left on the student's account.

All Meal Plans come with Pirate Bucks – a declining balance of points used to buy items a la cart at Starbucks, Dunkin’, Jersey Mike’s, Pirate Express, By The Slice or Café Jubilee.Pirate Bucks balances carry over from the Fall to Spring semester but unused Pirate Bucks at the end of the Spring semester are non-refundable and do not carry over. Unused Pirate Bucks are forfeited when a meal plan is canceled. Most Meal Plans include guest swipes which are used for treating friends or family without Meal Plans to a meal in the dining hall.
