Missing ID/Lock Out Policy

Purpose

To assist students in gaining entry to their assigned room or building when they do not have their ID or keys.

Scope

University Policy

Definitions

SHU ID: Seton Hall University issued identification card with a student’s picture, name, and student identification number.

Policy

Students unable to access their residence halls or assigned rooms because they left their SHU ID or keys in their assigned rooms should notify a member of the Residence Life staff. Residence Life will confirm the housing assignment and escort the student to their room to retrieve their SHU ID or keys as applicable. Students unable to swipe into their residence hall as a result of missing their SHU ID must go back to the front desk and swipe into the residence hall once they have retrieved their SHU ID from their room.

In the event a student has lost their SHU ID, the student must go to Card Services (located in Duffy Hall) or to Public Safety to get a new SHU ID or a temporary SHU ID card.

If a student loses their room key, they must notify Residence Life immediately (see Lost Key Policy).

Students will be charged a fee for a missing SHU ID or lock out as follows:

Missing SHU ID fee: $10

Lock out fees:

  • 1st lock out = $10
  • 2nd lock out = $15
  • 3rd and subsequent lock outs = $25
