Seton Hall University Launches Pre-Law Advising and Services at P-PAC

A law gavel.Seton Hall University’s Pre-Professional Advising Center (P-PAC) is excited to announce the launch of dedicated pre-law advising, services, and resources, providing students with comprehensive support as they prepare for law school and legal careers. P-PAC now serves as the centralized hub for all pre-health and pre-law resources at Seton Hall University.

The launch of pre-law services comes on the heels of the success in P-PAC’s pre-health advising and programming, which has supported students in achieving record acceptance rates into medical, dental, and other health professional schools. Building on this proven model of holistic, student-focused advising, P-PAC is expanding to serve pre-law students with the same level of commitment, guidance, and resources. “These are services students have been requesting at P-PAC since the start of the office, and I’m excited to finally roll this out to support our prelaw students!” says Chantal Vergara, Director of the P-PAC.

Students on their pre-law journey now have access to a wide range of resources, including one-on-one advising, application guidance, Law School Admissions Test (LSAT) preparation, workshops, professional development events, networking opportunities, and mentorship. These offerings are designed to help students navigate the law school admissions process, strengthen their candidacy, and explore meaningful experiential learning opportunities in the legal field.

The P-PAC is thrilled to welcome Madelyn S. Ferrans, J.D., as its new full-time Pre-Law Advisor.

Madelyn Ferrans is thrilled to join the P-PAC team. She is a lawyer and educator with over 15 years of experience working with pre-law students, bringing a deep passion for the law and a strong commitment to student success. She has served as both an advisor and faculty member in higher education, teaching law and government courses and mentoring students inside and outside the classroom.

“I’m excited to join the P-PAC and help pre-law students navigate every step of their journey from academics to professional growth,” said Madelyn Ferrans, J.D. “It’s rewarding to see them gain confidence and clarity as they prepare for law school and beyond”

Madelyn is dedicated to guiding students throughout their law school journey, from their first year at Seton Hall through graduation. With a student-centered approach and legal expertise, she helps students become competitive candidates for law school by focusing on academics, current legal issues, and professional development. In addition to advising on applications, she looks forward to developing and connecting students with events and opportunities that broaden their understanding of the legal field and its impact on society.

Madelyn is active in her community, volunteering for organizations including Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) of New Jersey, serving as a pro bono attorney for Kids in Need of Defense, and contributing as a trustee for the Livingston Historical Society.

“This expansion into pre-law advising reflects our commitment to providing students with the guidance and resources they need to pursue their professional dreams,” said Chantal Vergara. “This summer, we’ve connected with faculty and campus partners to ensure a holistic approach across campus and engaged student leaders to make sure our advising and resources are truly student focused. We attended the national pre-law advising conference, joined the Northeast Association of Pre-Law Advisors, met with LSAT prep companies, law school admissions representatives, and the Law School Admissions Council. At P-PAC, it’s important for us to stay abreast of best practices and every aspect of the application process to ensure our students have the best chances during their application cycle. Madelyn has been such a great addition to the team, and I’m excited for all the students to meet her.”

“As a pre-law student, I felt lost previously, it’s incredible to finally have dedicated resources and advising tailored to our needs at the P-PAC,” said Emmely Suarez, President of the Pre-Law Student Association.  The P-PAC team has been so supportive, and having professional guidance through applications, LSAT prep, and professional development makes me feel confident about my path to law school here at SHU.”
