PIPE Presents Irish Language Workshop - Seton Hall University
Wednesday, September 7, 2022
Pirates of Irish Persuasion & Extraction (PIPE), Seton Hall’s student organization celebrating Irish culture, is starting the academic year with an Irish language workshop. Students, faculty, staff, administrators and members of the wider community can attend the workshop on Friday, September 16, from 3:00 – 4:30 p.m. in the Beck Rooms on the ground floor of Walsh Library.
"PIPE, after a period of pandemic-induced dormancy, was reactivated as a student organization in December 2021, and the club is working on programming to benefit the entire University community this year," said Eilish R. Harrington, PIPE Advisor and the Institutional Planning and Communications Analyst at Immaculate Conception Seminary School of Theology.
The introductory-level Irish language workshop’s presenter will be Regina Femminella, a New Jersey native and a language and social science educator with 31 years of teaching experience. Back on campus for a second round of Irish language education after presenting a popular workshop for PIPE in the spring, Ms. Femminella is looking forward to working once again with attendees from the spring and to introducing the Irish language to others for the first time. She is an advocate for heritage and less-commonly-taught languages, with a particular interest in Irish. The workshop is appropriate for those who would like to learn to speak a few words and phrases in Irish and those who are interested in learning about the history of the Irish language.
RSVPs are not required, but they are requested so that Ms. Femminella can tailor the seminar to those who will attend. Please respond to Eilish Harrington at [email protected].
Future PIPE events this semester will include a Celtic harp performance by Odarka Polanskyj Stockert on October 14 during Seton Hall Weekend, and an Irish genealogy presentation byAlan Delozier, D. Litt., University Archivist & Adjunct Professor of Catholic Studies, as well as an advisor to PIPE, on November 11.
“We’re excited that after the Involvement Fair on campus, we’re already having an active semester,” said Elizabeth Walsh, PIPE President. “Our three events this semester will be complemented by club meetings, at which we’ll be planning for a full spring semester.”
Any students interested in joining PIPE should signal their interest on the campus-wide Engage platform or email [email protected].
