Recognized Organizations
                     
                     The following Greek-lettered organizations are recognized by the Greek Municipal Assembly
                        (GMA) and the Office of Student Engagement at Seton Hall University.
                     
                     
                        - Collegiate Panhellenic Council (CPC) »
                              
                              All of the organizations that fall under this governing council are recognized member-organizations
                                 of the National Panhellenic Conference. The NPC exists to promote the values of and
                                 to serve as an advocate for its member groups in collaboration with those members,
                                 campuses, and communities. Each member group is autonomous as a social, Greek-letter
                                 society of college women and alumnae. Member Organizations:

- Interfraternity Council (IFC) »
                              
                              The IFC strives to promote excellence in all aspects of fraternity life and academic
                                 pursuits. The Council works to achieve these goals through its committee structure
                                 focusing on an array of areas including chapter development, scholarship, community
                                 service, member education, and alumni and public relations. All of the organizations
                                 that fall under this governing council are participating member-organizations in the
                                 North-American Interfraternity Conference. Member Organizations:

- Independent Greek Council (IGC) »
                              
                              The Independent Greek Council (IGC) serves as the governing body for culturally diverse
                                 and mission-driven Greek organizations that prioritize community service, business,
                                 professional development, and the medical field. Through leadership, collaboration,
                                 and advocacy, IGC supports its member organizations in making a meaningful impact
                                 on campus and beyond. Member Organizations:

- Multicultural Greek Council (MGC) »
                              
                              The Multicultural Greek Council (MGC) is the governing board that oversees all cultural
                                 fraternities, multi-cultural, Latinx fraternities, and sororities. MGC strives to
                                 foster a diverse inclusive environment for all students. Member Organizations:

- National PanHellenic Council (NPHC) »
                              
                              The NPHC is the governing body that oversees the “Divine Nine” of historically African
                                 American fraternities and sororities at Seton Hall University. The NPHC promotes advocacy,
                                 academic excellence, and service to the community. Member Organizations:

Unrecognized Groups
                     
                     We strongly discourage student participation in unrecognized groups, as the university
                        does not provide any form of support, oversight, and advisement for their members.
                        Also, since these groups often lack national affiliation, they may not have liability
                        insurance, or oversight policies for risk management, hazing or sexual harassment.
                        Therefore, if one of these chapters would experience a civil lawsuit, a member of
                        that group might be held directly liable by a complainant, exposing himself/herself
                        and their family members to unneeded risk. Furthermore, many times national organizations
                        of these unrecognized groups choose not to acknowledge the University's concerns or
                        to take action against their chapters. Students who choose to become members of these
                        unrecognized groups may not obtain all of the benefits available to those who join
                        a recognized fraternity or sorority.
                     
                     Inactive/unrecognized groups are not permitted to host/co-host any type of programs,
                              nor are they permitted to hold intake and related activities.
