What is Academic Coaching?
Academic coaching is a one-on-one meeting with a trained peer academic coach who can
assist you with developing your skills and boosting your performance. Working with
an
academic coach can help you study smarter by improving your time management, goal
setting, test-taking skills, note-taking abilities, and organization.
Where is the Academic Resource Center (ARC) located?
The ARC is located in the Arts & Science Building in Room 242. The Math Learning Lab
is located at the ARC.
How much does it cost to work with an ARC tutor?
Nothing! All services are free to Seton Hall students.
What subjects are available through the ARC?
The ARC offers tutoring in over 40 subjects. Peer tutors are equipped to tutor a variety
of subjects.

Who are ARC tutors?
ARC tutors are undergraduate students who have taken and excelled in the course(s)
they are tutoring.
Do I have to make an appointment to meet with a tutor?
We offer drop-in tutoring in the ARC (Arts and Sciences Hall, Room 242) for most of
our subjects. You can reserve a spot for drop-in tutoring through Compass.
What can I expect from my tutor during a session?
Peer tutoring sessions last 30 minutes to one hour. Together a tutor and their tutee
set and develop strategies to achieve academic goals. All sessions revolve around
the
students' academic needs.
What can my tutor expect from me during a session?
Tutors expect that you will arrive on time to your session and be prepared to work.
They will expect you to bring the necessary course materials and be an active participant
in
the tutoring session.
What should I bring to my session?
The more prepared you are for your appointment, the more your tutor can help you.
You should bring to each session a pen, paper, their laptop, assignments, class notes,
textbooks
along with other relevant material.
Can I set up regular appointments with the same tutor?
Yes! You will make the most academic progress with regular appointments.
What are Tutors in Residence (TIR) and where can I find them to receive tutoring?
TIR's are undergraduate student tutors that tutor in Aquinas and Boland Halls. The
TIRs are available Sun-Thurs 5 p.m.-12 a.m. The schedule is posted outside of
the designated tutoring space.
What is Supplemental Instruction (SI)?
Supplemental Instruction is a series of peer-led review sessions that enhance students’
understanding of the course content. SI leaders hold several sessions per week
for their course and share the schedule with students enrolled in the course.
