Seton Hall University’s Tutor.com Integrity Guidelines

The Tutor.com integrity guidelines ensures academic support services provided through the platform are used ethically and responsibly. By following these guidelines, students help maintain a fair and beneficial learning environment.

  1.  No Sharing of Accounts
      • Students must not allow others to access Tutor.com through Canvas or any other means.
      • Sharing accounts compromises the integrity and security of the tutoring services.
  2.  No Assistance with Exams
      • Tutors are prohibited from helping students with exams, quizzes, or any other forms of assessment meant to evaluate the student’s independent performance.
      • The goal is to ensure that assessments accurately reflect the student’s knowledge and abilities.
  3. Capped Tutoring Hours:
      • Students are limited to a maximum of 10 tutoring hours per semester.
      • This cap ensures fair and equal access to tutoring resources for all students.
      • The limit also encourages students to develop independent study habits and encourages the use of other tutoring resources on campus.
  4. Monitoring:
      • The usage of Tutor.com accounts and sessions may be monitored to ensure compliance with the integrity policy.
      • Suspicious activities, such as multiple logins from various locations or excessive usage, will be investigated.
  5. Violations
      • Sharing accounts or receiving assistance with exams will result in immediate suspension of Tutor.com privileges.
      • Further disciplinary actions may include academic probation or other sanctions.

Best Tutoring Practices for Students

  1. Individual Work:
      • Use Tutor.com and other tutoring sessions to understand concepts and improve your skills, not to obtain direct answers.
      • Practice integrity by applying what you learn independently in your coursework and assessments.
  2. Efficient Use of Time:
      • Plan your tutoring sessions in advance and come prepared with specific questions or topics.
  3. Seek Approval for Additional Hours:
      • If you find that 10 hours is insufficient due to exceptional circumstances, seek approval from the Academic Resource Center for additional tutoring time.
      • Provide a valid reason and any supporting documentation to justify the need for extra hours.
  4. Use Other Resources on Campus:
      • Tutoring is available through the Academic Resource Center, Math Learning Lab, and the Writing Center for all undergraduate students.
